Work on a day off

I just got done double checking my Mom's business computer to make sure its running properly after it wouldn't boot properly last night.

The problem was that it was restarting when it got to the XP loading screen. I ran chkdsk from the recovery console, and a hard drive scanning program from a boot CD, and they both came out clean. I then got another hard drive and installed XP on it, about to transfer the files from the old HDD onto the new one, but then I decided to connect the old hard drive and boot from it. XP said it needed to do a chkdsk, so I let it run for a couple of hours. When it was at stage 5 after a couple of hours, I restarted the computer, and chkdsk ran again - this time completing and it went into XP. As a safety precaution, I backed up whatever files I could onto the new HDD, and made sure everything was working properly.

I need a vacation.

I just finished installing my iPod integration kit into my car, and man - its sweet! Of course, I have the satisfaction of doing it myself.

There isn't much to show because everything is behind the stereo, but hopefully this will rid me of my CDs.

Go see The Dark Knight

Go. Now.

waiting for a package SUCKS!

Yeah, I know. I live on an island in the middle of the pacific, blah, blah, blah. But still, waiting SUCKS! To make it worse, its via USPS!

I guess I'm spoiled by and UPS/Fedex, because I can order something from newegg on Monday, and have it arrive at my door by the end of the week.

Oh, and here's a comic that explains my feelings:

avoided another accident

This afternoon, I almost got into an accident with a SUV. I was driving down a residential neighborhood and about to cross an intersection. A second later, I see a female driver in a SUV/minivan about to enter my driving path, so I honked my weak ass horn for a couple of seconds and braked hard while avoiding the other vehicle that turned infront of me. All the while, there was another driver going the opposite direction and I clearly heard him saying "ho brah!".

This entry says 'avoided another accident' because earlier this year, I almost got into an accident with a driver who supposed to turn into the lane closest to him when he entered the same road I was turning in (the guy was turning right and supposed to go into the right lane). He went into my lane as I was turning into my closest lane (the left lane). Since I was turning, my hands were holding the steering wheel and luckily I didn't hit him - luckily the airbag light came on. At that time, I was driving m sister to school, so I dropped her off, then headed straight to the Mazda dealership to let the check it out. I got an appointment for the next day, and they resetted some lose wires that was under the passenger seat (where my sister was sitting).

Its always in the last place you look

Today, my coworker and manager was frantically looking for a TSO (a paper - probably about half a sheet big - that has the customer's info and computer problem). My coworker told me a dozen times that on Tuesday, he carried the laptop with the TSO to the front of the store, took it apart to find the model number for a screen, then put it back together. Since he misplaced the TSO, he and my manager was frantically looking for the precious piece of paper to call the customer. They were looking it for the past 3 days - almost tearing the place upside down. I joked that he left it in the computer, but he said he wouldn't do something that stupid. Hours after I initially made that suggestion, I mentioned it to him. Since they looked everywhere for it, he finally heeded my suggestion. A few minutes later, he approached me, looking at me with this bewildered look - I looked beyond where he was standing towards the laptop he took apart, and there it was: sitting on the back of the laptop. I LMAO for a good few minutes after that.

I hope I'll never do something that stupid.

Switching phones (again)

For some odd reason, I felt like using my Motorola SLVR phone - maybe because its thin (unlike my current phone, a Sony Ericsson s710a - which is like a brick), or because it has an pretty good MP3 player (the SLVR's itunes is good, but not as good as my iPod touch), or maybe because I just want something different for a change. Yeah, I'll go with the last option.

FYI, mostly all of my phones has a computer theme to it. My SE has a Mac OS X theme (don't even ask me what version, because I don't know) while my SLVR and v635 both has a XP theme (I spent too much time modding that theme to my liking, so I won't even 'upgrade' to Vista) LOL

Like all switch overs, I popped in a dummy SIM card into my SE phone so that if my SLVR somehow failed to wake me up, then atleast I'll get up for work tomorrow.

Working harder

Apparently, HP knows of a problem with their wireless connection and display on various HP/Compaq computers of the Pavilion dv2000, Presario v3000 (wireless issue) and Pavilion dv6000, dv9000, and Presario v6000 - which is mine - laptops.

From their website:
The following symptoms apply to Pavilion dv2000 and Presario v3000 notebooks:
  • The notebook does not detect wireless networks and the wireless adapter is not detected in the Device Manager.
  • There is no video on the computer LCD panel or external monitor.
The following symptoms apply to the dv6000, dv9000 and v6000 series notebooks:
  • The notebook does not detect wireless networks and the wireless adapter is not detected in the Device Manager.
  • There is no video on the computer LCD panel or external monitor.
  • The notebook has no power and no active LEDs.
  • The notebook does not start.
  • The battery charge indicator light does not turn on when the battery is installed and the AC adapter is connected.
  • The notebook issues a single beep during boot indicating no power.
  • The external monitor functions but there is no image on the notebook LCD panel.
I found this out through a coworker who has sent this information to a couple of people, but this is the first time I'm reading the details about it.

I hope my laptop doesn't have to be sent to the mainland.

Today, I repaired five computers within a five hour period, ranging from replacing screens, to installing Windows and recovering files.

Too bad I have about 4 more computers to work on this weekend... with help *knocks on wood*

driver half asleep

At about midnight last night (or I should say a few hours ago) my Mom got a call to discharge someone from the hospital, and of course she dragged me along. The GPS system luckily worked this time, bringing us to the address specified. Luckily I was awake enough to drive or else I wouldn't be here right now.

And FYI, there's a lot of police on the freeway to catch speeders at night, so luckily the van struggled to atleast stay at the speed limit.
